Training

Every horse is an individual…

Have a horse that needs to learn a new skill, or just get a tune up?

Want someone to put some show ring miles on your green horse, or compete it on your behalf longer term?

Between our resident trainer and local freelancers who we enjoy partnering with, we have someone on hand to work with your horse on most skills from groundwork and starting under saddle, to dressage, to jumping. Our owner/trainer and the freelancers to whom he hands off clients when appropriate all believe in kind training methods with a minimum of gadgets and a focus on building strong foundations and confident sound horses who understand their jobs. Please reach out to us with a description of your needs and someone with appropriate expertise will get back to you.

We do NOT do “30 days from pulled out of a field to WTC under saddle” style colt starting, “cowboy” horses with a known buck/rear/etc under saddle, put a rider’s weight on 2 (or in most cases even 3) year old horses, or otherwise ask any horse to progress faster than we feel that horse as an individual has the physical and mental fitness for. Our goal and that of anyone we give our blessing to offer services at our facility is to produce horses that are well-adjusted, set up for long term soundness, and have a correct foundation, not to produce results on anyone’s timeline except the horse’s. That said, we will ABSOLUTELY still take horses for training that we feel are too young to take a rider—we believe that training should start from birth, and there’s no reason that your pre ridden age youngster shouldn’t know how to longe, long line, wear tack, yield to pressure, be a pro at everything your vet and farrier would like them to be good at, tie, clip, trailer, investigate weird things and navigate obstacles in hand or ponied off another horse, go on field trips to hang out in busy show environments, pretty much everything except actually carry weight.
